Drough effects on the Brazos River

The Brazos River is suffering the effects of the drought, and local officials are trying to do something about it.

The Brazos River Authority has increased the flow release from Possum Kingdom Lake from 20 cubic feet per second to 35 cubic feet per second.  The B.R.A. told the Mineral Wells Index that the low flow of the river has affected both water supply and the river’s environmental health.

The river serves as a major water resource for communities between Possum Kingdom and Lake Granbury.

A few weeks ago the agency noticed that gauges along the river were showing remarkable decreased flow.

They even enlisted the help of the DPS making a helicopter trip over the river to make sure there was no unauthorized pumping. No unauthorized use was evident.
