Mineral Wells ISD is in need of certified bilingual teachers. In the meantime, the district is in need of a TEA waiver to allow more students in several elementary-grade level classrooms than allowed by the state.
The state requires a classroom ratio of 22 students to one teacher. The district has not been able to find enough certified bilingual teachers for some kindergarten and first grade classes.
The Mineral Wells Index said first-day attendance this school year was 3,243, down about 40 students from last year.
