Woman arrested in possible Mineral Wells counterfeiting ring

A fake $50 bill passed at a local fast-food restaurant led Mineral Wells police to arrest a woman who might be involved in a counterfeiting ring.

The Mineral Wells Index says Dawn Michelle Terrell, 41, of Graford, was arrested after police discovered she allegedly passed a counterfeit $50 bill at a local eatery in the 1700 block of East Hubbard Street, said police spokesman Lt. Randy Wright.

Police arrested Terrell on Sept. 5 on charges of forgery of a financial instrument, he said. She was released Sept. 6 from Palo Pinto County Jail on a $30,000 bond.

Police made the arrest after the restaurant reported Terrell allegedly paid for her order with the forged bill, Wright said. The counterfeit wasn’t discovered until after Terrell had left the restaurant.

Police believe Terrell may be part of a group that has been passing fake bills and forged checks recently at area businesses, he said. Police continue to investigate the case.
