A Garner woman stung more than 200 times during an Africanized bee attack at Possum Kingdom Lake has reportedly died.
61-year-old Nancy Whitehead was taken off life support this past week at Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth, where she was taken after she and her husband, Stanley Whitehead, were attacked Sept. 19 while trying to clean an old deck behind the Possum Kingdom Chamber of Commerce. The Mineral Wells Index says she died early Saturday morning.
Her husband said he turned over a piece of Styrofoam where the bees had made a large, basketball-sized nest. He said he was stung more than 300 times. His wife was sitting in the truck, but went to his rescue and was also attacked.
The aggressive bees continued attacking even as paramedics tried treating the couple at the scene. The nest was removed by an exterminator.
