Mineral Wells men arrested for hiring 3rd to set fire to building.
It’s illegal to set fire to a building…and now two Mineral Wells men understand that it’s also illegal to hire someone else to set fire to your building. Palo Pinto County Sheriff’s deputies arrested two men suspected of hiring another to set fire to the former Longhorn Bar and Grill, reportedly to collect insurance money.
The Mineral Wells Index says 44-year-old Russell Gann Goldston and 45-year-old Ron Keith Masterson were both arrested on charges of conspiracy to commit arson related to an Oct. 1 fire at the former restaurant. Goldston was released from Palo Pinto County Jail Oct. 10 on a $10,000 bond and Masterson was also released on Oct. 10 on a $5,000 bond, according to jail records.
The two men were arrested after investigators determined the fire apparently had been deliberately set and a third person under investigation had been hired to set the fire.
At the scene, investigators discovered an accelerate they believed was used to set the fire. Goldston allegedly contacted a suspect, who is still under investigation, to hire that person to start a fire at the former bar and grill to assist the owner in collecting insurance money on the property. The affidavit also states the third suspect started the fire.
Masterson owns the property where the former bar and grill was located.
