Firefighter, church volunteer sentenced for child molestation

A church youth leader and volunteer firefighter was sentenced to eight years Thursday, after a jury convicted him of fondling a boy who attended the Azle church where he volunteered three years ago.

The Dallas Morning News said Travis Reed, 33, was a firefighter for the Briar Volunteer Fire Department and was heavily involved in his church before he was accused of indecency with a child.

Prosecutors alleged Reed fondled an 11-year-old boy after inviting some boys from the church for a sleepover at his house in 2011. The boy testified that Reed tried the act on two other occasions.

Reed is married and has an infant child. He will be eligible for parole after four years.
