The City of Weatherford is answering questions about how the Downtown Action Plan could be funded. Some residents have raised concerns when the idea of using utility monies to fund the plan despite the bond election that would have funded the plan failed by a large margin.
The city released a statement yesterday saying no significant expenditure of utility funds was considered in the plan nor could the funds be expended without the approval of the Weatherford Municipal Utility Board. The city says utility funds are not anticipated to pay for major physical improvements in the Downtown Action Plan, but there are numerous minor projects in the plan that may be accomplished long term with existing funds in the city budget. The statement closes by saying “there is not now, nor has there ever been a plan to fund transportation projects with funds generated by the Weatherford Municipal Utility Department.”
