An employee at the Mineral Wells branch of Bealls was robbed Monday morning while taking the store’s weekend cash deposits to the bank. The employee, Sandy Barnes, told the Mineral Wells Index that the suspect came in from behind and grabbed the bag at about 10 a.m.
She tried to grab the bag back, but the force of the man grabbing the bag caused her to stumble, and the man got away. A witness told her the man was loitering around the store before he made his snatch-and-run, she said.
The thief, she said, ran east past an adjoining department store at the Brazos Mall and around the corner toward some apartments near the shopping mall. The thief took an undisclosed sum of money from three days of weekend sales.
Witnesses described the thief as a slender, white male about 5-foot, 9-inches tall with blond hair, wearing black baggy clothing and a tan or gray sock cap. There is surveillance video of the incident.
The thief faces a second-degree felony robbery charge when caught. He said police are currently seeking leads to the investigation and any information can be provided either to the police at 940-328-7770 or to Palo Pinto Area Crime Stoppers at 940-325-0000.
