A head-on collision at about 10:30 Friday morning injured two drivers and blocked traffic on S.H. 114, about two miles west of Boyd, for more than a half-hour. Andrew Erickson, 26, of Arlington, was westbound in a Nissan Titan pickup when, for no apparent reason, he drifted over into the path of an eastbound Nissan Maxima driven by Karen Backus, 54, of Springtown.
The Wise County Messenger said the collision flipped Erickson’s truck onto the south side of the roadway, while Backus’ car ended up on the north side. Backus was taken to Wise Regional Health System in Decatur and Erickson, who was more seriously injured, was taken to JPS Health System in Fort Worth, both by Wise County EMS. Highway traffic was backed up for more than a half-hour as responders from the Paradise and Boyd fire departments, Wise County Sheriff’s deputies and Boyd police officers worked to clear the scene.
