After a lengthy investigation of the blaze that destroyed a Mineral Wells apartment complex construction site in April, the State Fire Marshal’s Office has been unable to determine the fire’s cause and an insurance company is refusing to pay for the damages.
Because the loss at the Royal Gardens Apartment Complex was so high – more than $4 million in damages – the state was called in to investigate.
The complex was a total loss and intense heat also damaged nearby property, including breaking car windows and melting the vinyl siding on the east side of the adjacent Meals on Wheels building on S.E. 14th Street.
The Mineral Wells Index says Westchester Insurance Company claims it is not responsible for the losses suffered in the fire because the developers did not uphold conditions of the insurance policy, primarily by not having a security fence around the construction site.
