High-speed chase ends badly

Another high speed chase in our listening area, and again, it didn’t work out for the perpetrators.

Deputies arrived at a home Thursday night in Springtown to speak to 37-year-old Samual Burtis Cox.

Cox immediately fled from deputies, leading them in an eight-mile pursuit. Cox traveled at speeds up to 80 miles-per-hour in residential neighborhoods on Harms Way Road–he eventually left the roadway and crashed through at least five fences on eight properties. The pursuit ended when Cox wrecked the vehicle, landing in a horse arena.

He continued to flee on foot, and officers say he tossed a baggie of suspected methamphetamine into a horse trough. He was apprehended within 100 yards.

Four additional suspects were arrested at the scene including two occupants of the home identified.

Sheriff’s investigators anticipate to clear several local cases of theft and burglaries as a result of items recovered at the home in question.
