A Weatherford woman has been indicted on a charge alleging she embezzled nearly $50,000 from her employer.
A Parker County grand jury Thursday indicted 41-year-old Stephanie Manning Kirwin on a charge of theft.
Kirwin worked as a secretary and bookkeeper for Jamie French Construction in Millsap. She is accused of stealing more than $45,000 from the company between January 2013 and May 2014.
Kirwin allegedly issued herself 56 unauthorized checks, totaling more than $41,000, which she then deposited in her bank account. The Weatherford Democrat said Kirwin is said to have also issued herself weekly payroll checks that were more than the agreed upon amount.
An accountant doing the company’s taxes discovered the thefts, French said, adding that when Kirwin was confronted about the theft allegations, she left and did not return to work.
