A welfare check on an elderly woman Tuesday, led to a Mineral Wells police officer struggling with and disarming and arresting the woman’s son on assault, gun and drug charges.
61-year-old Karol McAtee of Mineral Wells, was arrested on multiple charges after pulling a gun on the officer, requiring the officer to disarm him.
Around noon Tuesday, the officer responded to a civil standby call at a home in the 2000 block of S.E. 22nd Ave., meeting with a Mineral Wells parole officer and Adult Protective Services on a welfare check of an elderly woman, who reported that her son was manufacturing and using drugs inside the home.
According to the Mineral Wells Index, officials said the elderly woman might have been abused and the parole officer said there was a report McAtee was in possession of a loaded gun.
Police say McAtee pulled a gun on an officer inside the home.
