Weatherford teen gets unusual sentence in hit-and-run case

The trial of the Weatherford teenager who struck a passenger with her vehicle, killing the 58-year-victim, has ended. 17-year-old Morgan Rae Lopatesky pleaded guilty in the August 2014 hit-and-run death of Marla Zand Carroll in the Hudson Oaks Wal-Mart parking lot. She was given a 10-year prison sentence, with aan unusual provision–she will go to prison as soon as the state has room for her. She’ll spend six months in prison and then return to a local court where the judge will assess her behavior with possibility of only returning to jail on the victim’s birthday, her birthday and other key holidays. The victim’s family was supportive of the agreement.
