Recent Weatherford High School graduate Beau Burrows was drafted with the 22nd pick in the first round of the Major League Baseball Draft by the Detroit Tigers last night.
"The Tigers organization is excited to select Beau Burrows this evening," said David Chadd, the team’s vice president of amateur scouting. "He features a mid to upper 90s fastball with a plus breaking ball. We’re very excited to have the opportunity to add him to our organization."
Burrows, who is listed at 6-foot-2 and 200 pounds, throws his fastball in the 93- to 95-mph range, according to a Baseball America scouting report. Baseball America listed Burrows in the 33rd spot on their board.
Burrows posted a 0.78 ERA and struck out 132 in 72 innings in his senior season for Weatherford High School.
