A 65-year-old Palo Pinto County man died Sunday afternoon after he was reportedly attacked by bees while mowing.
The Mineral Wells Index says Harry Dee Daugherty, who lived along the Brazos River north of Interstate 20, was on a riding lawnmower cutting grass on the property of a deceased neighbor in Soda Springs when a swarm of bees attacked him.
Daugherty was pronounced dead at 4:44 p.m. Sunday at Weatherford Regional Medical Center. His body was taken to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office, where an official ruling on the cause and manner of death was pending as of Monday morning.
Officials say the more aggressive Africanized variety of bees are becoming more prevalent in our area.
