Area residents are complaining about a local company, with formal complaints about the air quality in their neighborhood. An air quality permit sought by FTS International Manufacturing that would allow the company to quadruple the aerosol cans used in weekly equipment maintenance — from 126 to 545 — has drawn formal complaints from several Aledo residents.
In January of 2015 the TCEQ executive director made a preliminary decision in favor of the permit, saying the anticipated annual emissions — which include 6.89 tons of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), 2.58 tons of maximum aggregate hazardous air pollutant and .89 tons of maximum individual air pollutants — would have no adverse effect on human health.
The Weatherford Democrat said one resident wore a gas mask during the meeting–for dramatic effect.
Officials said the company doesn’t need the permit right away, but wants it in place for the future, when officials decide to scale up operations.
