Azle resident Bradley Bettis says he shot Benny Rogers in self-defense, and a Parker County grand jury has agreed. The grand jury has handed down a no-bill to the 45-year-old defendant.
Rogers was dating Bettis’ ex-wife. Rogers told investigators that Bettis left him a threatening voicemail, and then drove up into his driveway, got out of his truck and began running at Rogers. Rogers said he pointed a gun at Bettis and told him to stop but he didn’t–he said Bettis continued to charge at him threatening to kill him, so Rogers shot him in the head. Rogers’ 16-year-old son was a witness to the incident.
Multiple voicemails were revealed in the investigation, including one where Bettis threatened to kill Rogers.
