Officer-involved shooting in Weatherford

The Weatherford Police Department is currently working an officer involved shooting in the 1800 Block of S. Main St.

Around 10:50 a.m. Tuesday, one of the businesses located in the area called in on a suspicious person that appeared to be acting strangely and had tripped and fell in a median area located between two businesses. EMS personnel from Lifecare and the Weatherford Fire Department arrived on scene in an attempt to assess the subject for any type of medical condition. While they were talking to the subject, he stood up and pulled out a knife directing it at the EMS Personnel. The subject started to walk away toward the front business doors of David’s Western Wear. EMS called for police department assistance and officers were dispatched to respond.

While officers were en route to the scene, the subject had walked into the David’s Western Wear business. Minutes later, one of the officers arrived on scene and entered the store to assess the situation.

Moments later, there was a confrontation at the inside front door of the business. The officer fired his duty weapon striking the subject at least once. The knife was kicked out of the subject’s hand after he fell to the ground. Immediately following, the officer along with EMS personnel provided the subject with medical assistance. He was loaded into the ambulance and transported to a Fort Worth hospital. The subject appeared to be in serious condition at the time of transport.

No bystanders, store employees, EMS or Police personnel were injured. The subject’s identity has not be confirmed at this time. Investigators are currently on scene deposing numerous witnesses to the incident. More information will be provided at a later time.

During their assessment, the subject stood up and pulled out a knife directing it at the EMS Personnel. The subject started to walk away from EMS toward the front business doors of David’s Western Wear. EMS called for police assistance and minutes later an Officer from the Weatherford Police Department arrived on scene. The subject with the knife had already walked inside the business moments before the officer arrived. When the officer arrived, he entered the store to asses the situation. While inside the store there was a confrontation at the front door of the business. The officer fired his duty weapon striking the subject at least once. Immediately following, the subject fell to the ground and the knife was removed from his hand. The subject was given immediate medical attention by EMS personnel still on scene. He was loaded into the ground ambulance and transported to a Fort Worth Hospital. The subject appeared to be in serious condition at transport. No bystanders, store employees, EMS or any officers were injured. The subjects identity has not been confirmed yet. Investigators are currently on scene deposing numerous witnesses.
