Man shot by police officer after knife incident dies

A man who pulled a knife on emergency personnel was shot by a Weatherford police officer yesterday and died at a Fort Worth hospital. The incident began just before 11 a..m. on South Main Street outside David’s Western Wear…a suspicious person was acting strangely and tripped and fell in a median area located between two businesses.

Weatherford Police Department is currently working an Officer Involved Shooting in the 1800 Block of S. Main St. Around 10:50AM, one of the businesses located in the area called in on a suspicious person that appeared to be acting strangely and had tripped and fell in a median area located between two businesses. EMS personnel from Lifecare and the Weatherford Fire Department arrived on scene. While they were talking to the subject, he stood up and pulled out a knife directing it at the EMS Personnel. While officers were enroute to the scene, the subject had walked into the David’s Western Wear business. Moments later, there was a confrontation at the inside front door of the business. The officer fired his weapon striking the subject at least once. Immediately following, the officer along with EMS personnel provided the subject with medical assistance. He was transported to a Fort Worth hospital and apparently died during surgery. The suspect’s name has not been released.

The Texas Rangers are now leading the investigation. The officer, whose name is being withheld at this time, has been placed on routine administrative leave.The officer involved has been with the Weatherford Police Department for over 7 years.
