Local basketball fans will have over 30 games over three days to enjoy during the 21st annual Jerry Durant / Charlie Gilchrist Kangaroo Klassic December 1 – 3 at Weatherford High School.
Formerly known as the Weatherford New Car Dealers Kangaroo Klassic, the tournament is hosted by the WHS Boys Basketball Booster Club and features area teams. Participating schools include Weatherford, Aledo, Bedford, Benbrook, Burleson, Crandall, Decatur, Granbury, Red Oak, and Richland.
“We’re proud that this is our tournament’s 21st year,” said Courtney Paschall, Booster Club president. “The late Don Allen started this event in the mid-90’s and thanks to Jerry Durant, Charlie Gilchrist and the WHS coaching staff we continue the tournament’s tradition.”
Games start at 10:30 AM on Thursday and Friday and the last tip-off on those days begin at 7:30 PM. Saturday’s games will start at 9:00 AM with the final game that day beginning at noon with the Weatherford Kangaroo’s facing the Aledo Bearcats.
The Weatherford varsity squad will begin the tournament on Thursday at 7:30 PM against Burleson and will play Red Oak on Friday also at 7:30 PM. Weatherford’s JV and Freshman A & B squads will also participate all three days.
“Last year, several visiting coaches told us that this is their favorite tournament,” Paschall said. “We’re going to continue that Weatherford hospitality this year. Coach Charles Tatum, Coach Jordan Coffman and others do a great job of organizing the tournament, and we have a team of hard-working volunteers.”
Tournament passes will be sold at the gate for $5 a day. Look forward to seeing you there!
