Suspect arrested in 1987 murder

On Wednesday morning, investigators with the Weatherford Police Department in cooperation with the Texas Rangers arrested 59 year old Ricky Lee Adkins on a Capias Warrant for Capital Murder, following a Parker County Grand Jury Indictment, for the murder of Wendy Kae Robinson. Adkins was arrested without incident at his residence in Ranger and was transported to the Parker County jail. Adkins is being held on a Capital Murder charge which stems from a Grand Jury indictment handed down on December 1, 2016.

On July 8, 1987 Robinson, a 19 year old Willow Park resident, had traveled to the area of Lake Weatherford known as “The Wall” where she was last seen sunbathing around 1:55 PM. The next day, she was reported missing to the Weatherford Police Department by her father Jim Robinson.

Several days later, Wendy’s body was located near a gated entrance to a ranch in the 500 block of Savage Lane in Parker County. From that date forward Wendy Robinson’s death has been investigated as a homicide. Police detectives have followed up on countless leads and sought the assistance of numerous law enforcement agencies and investigative resources over the course of this investigation. Even though the case went cold, investigators continued to follow up with tips and leads over the last 29 years.

In January of 2016 this cold case was closely reviewed once again by Weatherford PD detectives, as well as investigators from the Weatherford/Parker County Special Crimes Unit in an effort to bring a fresh set of eyes and theories to the investigation. After developing a new strategy based off old leads, detectives sought the assistance of the Texas Rangers and the United States Secret Service. Following months of exhaustive investigation, reviewing case reports, taking new statements and interviewing multiple individuals associated with the case, investigators worked with the Parker County District Attorney’s office and presented the on- going case to the Parker County Grand Jury. On December 1, 2016 a Grand Jury indictment was handed down for Adkins for the Capital Murder of Wendy Kae Robinson.

This case is still on-going and investigators believe there may be more parties that are either involved or have information related to death of Robinson. Weatherford Police are still seeking the public’s assistance to obtain any additional information. If anyone from the public has information related to this case, please call the Weatherford Police Department at 817- 598-4300. Individuals can also submit information through the Texas Rangers’ Cold Case website at: http://www.dps.texas.gov/TexasRangers/UnsolvedHomicides/index.htm or by contacting the Missing Persons Clearinghouse at 1-800-346-3243.

Parker County Crime Stoppers is offering up to a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of any additional person/persons responsible for Robinson’s death. To be eligible for the cash reward, the tip must be submitted by calling 817-599-5555 or online at www.pccs.tips. Anyone contacting Crime Stoppers with information will remain anonymous.
